Ok, so after much thought (read: school has started and I'm already bored), I've decided to start trying to post regularly in here again (read: don't expect another post for two weeks 'cause I'm probably gonna forget).
Sony has finally released an 8 hour minidisc. Sony is already planning the release of at least two MD players supporting this new format and apparently is going to approach other companies and suggest that they too take up this new format. What does this mean? Well, now MD has secured it's viability for the next few years. Let's consider the current portable audio systems out there already. The iPod which is an HDD mp3 player, the flash memory mp3 players, CDs, and mini-CD players. In short, the new MD player will be smaller and lighter than the iPod, have longer playtimes than flash mp3 players, CDs, and mini-CDs, and will be a lot smaller than CD or mini-CD players. And of course the greatest advantage of an MD player is that they can record on the fly. Anyway, now the only thing to see is how much a new HI-MD player will cost.
